What is lake disappointment?

Lake Disappointment is a salt lake located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. It is situated approximately 800 kilometers north of Perth and covers an area of around 1,800 square kilometers. The lake's name is said to have been given by explorer Frank Hann in the late 1800s, who was disappointed to find the lake dry during his expedition.

Despite its name, Lake Disappointment is a unique and beautiful natural attraction, especially during the wet season when it fills up with water and creates a stunning reflection of the surrounding landscape. The area is also home to various bird species and wildlife, making it a popular spot for birdwatching and nature enthusiasts.

Access to Lake Disappointment is limited, and visitors are advised to check road conditions before embarking on the journey. The closest town to the lake is Paraburdoo, which is about a 4-hour drive away. It is recommended to visit during the cooler months of the year to avoid the extreme heat of the Australian desert.
